A greenhouse at the heart of the garden
This whitewashed brick home had beautiful bones, generous lawn, mature trees, and a lovely view but the garden surrounding it felt disconnected and underused. An awkward patio and shed occupied the space where an outbuilding had once stood, while scattered plantings and a small deck made the outdoor living areas difficult to use.
We reorganized the garden around a new bluestone patio and greenhouse, creating distinct spaces for dining, lounging, entertaining, and gardening. Custom whitewashed brick planters echo the architecture of the house while dividing the patio into garden rooms and providing space for both ornamental planting and vegetables.
Elsewhere, we transformed overlooked corners into a cutting garden, added practical cushion storage, and replaced a bare slope with layered evergreen groundcovers and seasonal plantings. The result is a garden that feels deeply connected to the house - beautiful, productive, and designed for everyday family life.
One large blue-stone patio creates a much more functional space, divided into garden rooms with raised brick planters designed to look as though they had been there as long as the house.
The original patio lacked a strong visual connection to the house.
The original path had become sparse and disconnected from the garden.
A steep, bare slope created an unattractive transition to the street.
New planting and furniture transformed the patio into an inviting extension of the home.
Custom brick raised planters provide space for vegetables and ornamental plants while doubling as low walls that divide the patio into distinct garden rooms. Whitewashed to match the home, they feel as though they have always belonged to the property.
New trees and layered planting frame the path and lead toward the greenhouse.
Practical space was included for serious gardening.
Now a lush garden has year long interest.
The garden beds are now being used for cut flowers and the slope is covered in a mosaic of plants along with lots of spring bulbs.
A custom shed was designed to hold all the outdoor cushions through the rainy season.
Layered evergreen ground-covers stabilize the slope.
