Modern Forest Garden
Set beneath mature conifers, this steep, shady garden was difficult to navigate and largely disconnected from the home. A moss-filled lawn, undersized deck, and overgrown planting obscured a charming tree-house and left the lower garden difficult to access, especially in winter.
We transformed the slope into a series of connected garden spaces, introducing terraces, flagstone paths, a gravel patio, and a larger multi-level deck designed for dining, gathering, and relaxing. A modern planting palette embraces the surrounding forest while bringing a contemporary edge to the garden.
An architectural stairway of offset metal, gravel, and flagstone creates a dramatic descent into the lower garden. The result is a layered, modern garden that feels rooted in its wooded setting while making the entire property more accessible and enjoyable.
Access to the back garden was steep and muddy in the wet months.
The deck too small to function well, nor did it celebrate the surrounding natural space.
Not only do the new steps create a safe easy way to access the back garden, they are now a focal point.
The new floating deck flows with the landscape and creates new spaces to dine and relax.
